In Spain can help you arrange the ceremony of your dreams. Together, we will develop
a ceremony that is both beautiful and meaningful, including details such as décor,
music, creation of vows, and wedding party coordination. We will assist with the
legal process by providing you with information on paperwork, witnesses, translators
and other requirements. As
a rule, only Catholic and Civil weddings are accepted as valid under Spanish Law,
and are recognized as such in the rest of Europe and the USA. Events in Spain
recommend that foreign couples (both bride and groom do not carry Spanish passports)
have a civil ceremony in their home country and have the blessing or "Wedding"
done in Spain. This will simplify the process and cut down on time-consuming paperwork.
Anglican blessing: The Anglican Church has no power to marry couples in Spain,
but can perform blessings after a civil marriage. For a blessing to take place,
resident couples need to contact their local priest to fill-out the relevant paperwork
and discuss the ceremony. Non-resident couples need to make a similar application
to their local priest in their country of residence. Three months notice is required
for such a ceremony to take place. Catholic
Wedding: For a catholic wedding to occur in Spain, the couple must contact
their local diocese and discuss their plans. The local diocese will then organize
the paperwork through the Heads of the Catholic Churches in the couple's country
of residence and Spain. Events in Spain can help by providing the name of the
priest and location in Spain where the couple wishes to marry, but the rest has
to be organized by the couple with their church. This process can take up to a
year. The ceremony itself may be carried out in Spanish or English, depending
on the priest and the church. Civil
Wedding: The requirements for civil weddings vary by Town hall, some requiring
one of the couple to be a resident. Please check with us directly if you are interested
in a civil wedding. We will advise where it will be possible depending on your
nationality and residency. In general, the following documentation has to be provided:
" Original birth
certificate accompanied by a sworn translation " Passport or residency
card " Certificate of No Impediment to marry If
either one of the couple is divorced, then the original marriage and divorce certificates
must be presented accompanied by a sworn translation. In the case either one of
the couple is widowed, then both the original marriage certificate and death certificate(s)
must be presented together with sworn translations. Exchange
of vows: For the truly romantic, couples may want to write and exchange their
own vows. This type of ceremony can take place in almost any location. A civil
wedding can take place in the couple's country of origin prior to the ceremony
if the couple wishes the union to be recognized under their country's laws, or
it can be combined with a Spanish civil ceremony. Renewal
of Vows: For those couples wishing to renew their vows, either a religious
or symbolic ceremony can be arranged. Other religions: It is possible to
celebrate weddings for couples of other faiths (although they are not considered
legal). Please contact us directly with details of the religion of the bride and
the groom in order that we might help.
